The twenty-two pathways

The path to becoming a Beyonder begins with choosing the first Sequence 9 potion. You can choose from 22 currently available pathways: Abyss, Black Emperor, Chained, Darkness, Death, Demoness, Door, Error, Fool, Hanged Man, Hermit, Justiciar, Moon, Mother, Paragon, Red Priest, Sun, Twilight Giant, Tyrant, Visionary, Wheel of Fortune, White Tower.

Each pathway has unique abilities and special conditions for advancement.

All pathways progress from Sequence 9 (weakest) to Sequence 0 (most powerful):

  1. Low Sequences: 9 → 8
  2. Middle Sequences: 7 → 5
  3. High Sequences:
    • 4 - Demigod
    • 3 - Saint
    • 2 - Angel
    • 1 - King of Angels
    • 0 - Beyond

Each of these seats is finite, and the cap is set per pathway - your 22 choices don’t share a pool:

01 - the pathway’s single throne

Sequences 9 through 4 are uncapped. Reaching Sequence 0 isn’t a normal potion advancement either - it’s a full ascension with its own gate, ceremony, and ongoing upkeep. See Sequence 0 for the complete system.

Yes, but a pathway switch is also an advancement. The potion must be for exactly one Sequence stronger than your current Pathway; you cannot switch sideways at the same Sequence.

  • An adjacent-pathway switch becomes safe once your current Pathway reaches Sequence 4.
  • A switch involving the Lord of Mysteries group becomes safe at Sequence 3.
  • Switching before those thresholds is possible but carries temporary Madness, Permanent Madness, and a survival roll.
  • A non-adjacent switch never receives the safe neighboring-switch exemption.

Acting and ritual requirements still apply to pathway switches. Transfer-token switches are exempt from the normal pathway-switch Madness cost. See Mutation for the current default costs and survival chances.

You can learn more on the official wiki of the web novel. If you don’t want to go through this, choose your pathway wisely!

Yes - through Purification, a spell of the Sun pathway. It is the only way to move backwards.

A Sun Demigod must stay close to you for roughly 2.5 minutes, after which you regress by one Sequence (for example, Sequence 7 back to Sequence 8). It can be applied repeatedly: a second use takes you from 8 to 9, and a further use strips a Sequence 9 Beyonder of their powers entirely, returning them to being an ordinary human.

Each pathway has its strengths and weaknesses:

  • Sun - light, purification, support
  • Door - teleportation, mobility, spatial tricks
  • Tyrant - lightning, water spells, strength and pressure in battle
  • Fool - deception, illusions, unpredictable moves
  • Red Priest - crowd influence, glass cannon, fire magic
  • Demoness - temptation, curses, mirror magic
  • Error - rule breaking, theft, deception
  • Visionary - foresight, protection, intimidation
  • Hanged Man - souls, blood, corruption
  • Wheel of Fortune - luck, crits, random bonuses
  • Darkness - dreams, nightmares, control
  • …etc

Can I immediately advance to a high level?

Section titled “Can I immediately advance to a high level?”

No. All players start from Sequence 9 and gradually advance further, fulfilling conditions and gathering the necessary resources.

No. A power obtained through another copying or transfer system cannot be used as the source for another copy. This prevents recursive chains involving Record, Power Theft, Deprivation, Grazing, Avatars, Marionettes, possession, and Sealed Artifacts.

The original source ability must also be eligible for copying. Invalid, conflicting, expired, or already-copied abilities are excluded from selection menus.
